KEVIN JOAQUIN GARCIA
Welcome to the website of drummer-percussionist Kevin Garcia. Kevin grew up playing music in Detroit, MI and currently lives in Brooklyn, NY. Kevin plays drum set, hand percussion of many different cultures, hybrid drum set/hand percussion set-ups, classical percussion, keyboard percussion including marimba, vibraphone, and glockenspiel, electronic instruments utilizing trigger pads and effects modules, and sound creation/manipulation software.

Kevin works as a dance accompanist for The Merce Cunningham Dance Company, Steps On Broadway, Peridance, Limon, Columbia University-Barnard College, Juilliard, New York University, Alvin Ailey Dance Theater, Paul Taylor, Marymount, Hunter College, Long Island University, Mark Morris, The Joffrey Ballet, Matthew Bourne's New Adventures, David Dorfman Dance, The Sean Curran Dance Company, Milton Meyers, Kevin Wynn, Trisha Brown, Donald McKayle, Mary Cochran, Saeko Ichinohe, Jeff and Yukie Moen, Anita Cheng, Dagmar Spain, Gil Stroming's Break The Floor, Mia Michaels, Mandy Moore, Mike Minery, Nick Lazzarini, The Jump Convention, ArtsConnection, Harkness Dance, and American College Dance Festival Association. Kevin also teaches dance accompaniment, and has helped train many New York City accompanists.
1998 PASIC Best International Percussion Performance Winner, 2000 US Ambassador Musician to Poland, 2003 Columbia University-Barnard College Composer in Residence, 2007 to 2013 touring the UK eleven times with Wheatus and Australia in 2013, 2008 Performing at Town Hall with Duncan Sheik and touring the USA, 2010 US Ambassador Musician to France, Performing Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson on Broadway and BBAJ "Rock Star" on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, 2013 NYC Shakespeare In The Park Love's Labour's Lost, 2014 Performing at The Apollo and Lincoln Center with Rebecca Naomi Jones and in 2015 Returning to Lincoln Center to perform with Jose Llana. In 2014 Kevin was made an Honorary Cajun by The City of Lafayette, Lousiana. 2015 Kevin toured Alaska with The Duhks making that the 49th state Kevin has toured in.
Kevin has studied with Billy Hart, Judy Moonert, Boris Amontete Tchango, Ustad Mulazim Hussain, Zoumana Dembele, Dre Pallemaerts, Sri Guruvayur Dorai, Frances Kofi, Tim Froncek, Jon Weber, Chris Thompson, Tim Fairbanks, Joe Kuerzi, and Brandon Brown. Kevin holds degrees from Western Michigan University in Percussion Performance and Philosophy. He also attended the Halewynstitchting Conservatory in Belgium for Jazz, Ghanaian, Togolese, and Cameroonian Percussion Performance. in 2000, Kevin attended The Lake Placid Institute for Composition and Improvisation where he studied with Kenny Werner, Bob Brookmeyer, Rufus Reid, and Jane Ira Bloom. In 2001 Kevin made New York City his home, where he continually finds new avenues of study, and fresh inspiration from the music scene.

Kevin is working on the Broadway Musical Fun Home subbing for John Hadfield.
Kevin is working with Clinton Curtis and Geoff Countryman on a Brasilian influenced record.
E2K has finished recording a full length record of Egyptian inspired music due out later 2015.
Walter Parks (Richie Havens) and Larry Heinemann (Blue Man Group) have teamed up with Kevin to form a power trio.
Pape Armand Boye and Djustpora are finished with their latest records, look for them touring later in 2015, and on PBS.
